Jeffrey's Adventure to the Vaughan-Smitherman Museum
Jeffrey visited the Vaughan-Smitherman Museum today and he learned so much about this magnificent structure. For example, this building is known by a variety of names throughout its history. It was built in 1847 and has served as a school, a Confederate hospital, Selma's first African American hospital, a military school, a memorial hospital, and it is now a museum depicting history from Selma's beginning to around 1960. The museum has countless documents from Selma's past, a replica of Mayor Smitherman's office, and the third floor is restored and looks just like a nineteenth century hospital. There is so much to see in this historic structure and Jeffrey loved every bit of it!
