Historic Selma Pilgrimage

The Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society hosted its 39th Annual Historic Selma Pilgrimage on March 14 & 15.  This year’s tour included a number of historic homes and attractions in our community.  Hundreds of people travel to Selma each year from all over the United States to tour homes in our historic district, which is the largest in the state of Alabama with more than 1,200 structures.

If you traveled through town those days, you may have noticed a few artists set up on the sidewalks.  These 25 Plein Air artists created beautiful works of our downtown areas and later sold their artwork at the Selma Art Guild Gallery.

Junior Hostesses are also present during Pilgrimage weekend to greet visitors at each of the homes, museums, and historic sites.  They serve as ambassadors for our community and wear beautiful antebellum dresses.  This year we had 30 participants from local middle schools and high schools.

Historic Selma Pilgrimage is every year on the third weekend in March, so mark your calendars and visit www.selmapilgrimage.com for more information.
